Full Arch Replacement
Benefits of a Fixed Bridge on Implants for All Teeth Replacement:
When all teeth are missing or in a condition where they need to be replaced, a fixed bridge anchored to dental implants offers the best permanent solution. This option provides stability, functionality, and an aesthetically pleasing outcome.
Before dental implants, there were no fixed solutions available for individuals who had lost all their teeth. However, with the advent of dental implants, it is now possible to replace a full jaw with implants and a fixed bridge, resulting in a permanent, stable, and highly aesthetic solution.
Key Benefits:
1. Restoration of normal eating and function: With a fixed bridge on implants, you can eat and function as if you have natural teeth. The stability and strength provided by the implants allow for confident and comfortable chewing.
2. Solid and stable solution: Dental implants provide a strong foundation for the fixed bridge, ensuring stability and durability. The bridge will serve you for life, providing a reliable solution for your missing teeth.
3. Preservation of facial appearance and prevention of bone loss: By replacing all teeth with a fixed bridge on implants, you can maintain the natural shape of your face and prevent bone loss in the jaw. This helps to preserve facial aesthetics and supports overall oral health.
Treatment Process:
The treatment procedure and the number of visits required may vary depending on individual conditions. Generally, it takes approximately 8-10 visits to have a fixed bridge installed. Patients often report feeling more comfortable following the procedure than they had anticipated.
Course of Treatment – Installing the Fixed Bridge on Implants:
1. Before the procedure: The dentist evaluates the patient’s condition and prepares both themselves and the patient for the upcoming treatment.
2. Installing the implants: Dental implants are surgically placed to replace the lost tooth roots. In the case of a full jaw replacement, typically five implants are used. Temporary teeth are attached to the implants, allowing you to eat and function normally while waiting for the permanent bridge.
3. Attaching the bridge: The final bridge is securely installed on top of the implants. With a full jaw replacement, it may require 2-3 visits to complete the attachment of the bridge.
4. End result: The new teeth should closely resemble natural teeth, both in appearance and function. Patients who have transitioned from traditional dentures to a fixed bridge often describe the experience as overwhelming and very positive.
Alternatives to a Fixed Bridge:
– Removable implant-anchored overdenture: This option involves a removable full denture that is connected to dental implants using a ball or bar attachment. While it provides better function and comfort compared to traditional dentures, it does not offer the same level of stability and esthetics as a fixed bridge.
– Removable full denture: This is a denture that sits loosely on top of the gum to cover the missing teeth. Although it is a lower-cost option with easy installation, it has several disadvantages, including discomfort while eating, poor esthetics, compromised speech, and potential gum soreness from denture movement. Additionally, an upper denture can significantly reduce the sense of taste.
It is crucial to consult with your dentist to determine the most suitable solution based on your specific condition and desired outcomes.
